department, pete rringer, with us on the phone. let me ask you first to talk about the people involved here. the folks who lived in the unit that caught fire. i know there were evacuations, as well. >> yeah. it's aairly large residential building, 12 floors. we did have heavy fire coming from the balcony upon our arrival. it started around 5:15. we did call for some reinforcements. right now we have three alarms worth of personnel and equipment on the scene. over 100 firefighters. butha w evacuated some of the portions of the building. ninthe -- fire was on the floor. there was some extension into some other apartments. and the fireup went as well, so we have heavy smoke conditions on upper floors. we evacuated. we assisted people from the building. but we are able to shelter people in the building. it's cold but we are able to i'm not aware of any serious

injury. we have ems a crews that evaluate something residents. but i'm not aware of any serious injury at this point. the bulk of the fire has been knocked down. i think brad had a good assessment, there's something on the balcony causing fuel f the fire. it probably is a grill. for most p ot the bulkthe fire has been knocked down. >> everyone has been accounted for at this point? the peopl in that particular unit and the surrounding units that have been affected by the fire? >> reporter: you know, it's a huge building, a the best i know everybody's been accounted for. we're still in the process of making sure that thats the case. as far as i know, when we arrived the scene, we did have heavy firconditions. the apartment of origin, i believe, had been acuated, self-evacuated. we needed -- we didn't perform any rescues from that apartment. there were some very heavymoke conditions throughout certainly the ninth floor and a couple of

handcuffs, and drove him to his mother's house. they say he was never under arrest.however, police did arre 13-year-old boy for his role in the robbery. 20 years in prison is the sentence handled down yesterday to a maryland man who pled guilty to child pornography charges. jonathan oldale was arrested nearly two years a after a cameras found in the bathroom of silver stars gymnastics and fitness in silver spring. prosecutors s dale set up spy cameras in his home and recorded children undressing after splash parties in his yard. after he serves his sentence he will have to register as a sex offender. 6:35 here are the morning's other tot ies -- today is the deadline house democrats gavege attorney ral william barr to release special counsel robert mueller's report. if barr fails to do it, a top democratic leader says barr could face a sspoena early as this weekmo on these developments coming up in a few minutes.

a jury convicted a man of sexually assaulting and killing a new york city jogger. karina vetrano vanished during a run in queens in 2016. around 10:00 last night, a jury convicted chanel lewis on all charges. this comes after last year's mistrial when jurors could not agree on a verdict. it could be a few more weeks before boeing smits the final fix for those grounded jets. card toing to the federal -- according to the federal aviation badministrationing needs additional time to repair software for the 737 max jets. the agenc and boeing are under fire following two fatal crashes since october. the faa says it will conduct a rigorous safety review. baltimore's mayor is taking an indefinite leave of absence. katherine pugh's spokesperson said she's taking time off to rest while battling pneumonia. but she's avoiding scandal after dealings with a company that published her children's books.

latest. aimee? >> reporter: the entire street is fled with first sponders. over 100 firefighters trying to make sure everyone gets out of the way safely. that's t condo building there. tae waterford condos. the fireed on t other side. firefighters think everyone has been accounted for, but they are double ichecking. ant to show video to give you a better perspective of how serious the situation is. earlier we saw heavy smoke pouring out of the windows. firefighters say it started in a bedroom in the ninth floor. from there the fire also apparently spread to several other cdo units. as you can see, this is a huge highrise building. that's part of the reason why they had to bring in so many first help get everyone out of the building as fast as possible and also make sure theire and smoke don't spread anymore. news4 talked to montgomery county fireldbout what c have causeded this to happen.
